    John Daniel Hicks[1] (born June 2, 1962) is an American sportscaster for NBC Sports since 1992.

    Early years

    Born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, Hicks graduated from Sabino High School in 1980 and from the University of Arizona in 1984.[1][2] After starting in radio, he was a weekend sports anchor on KVOA, the NBC affiliate in Tucson.

    Hicks moved east to work as a sports reporter for CNN in Atlanta in 1989[2] and went to NBC Sports in 1992.

    Hicks took over as play-by-play commentator for Notre Damefootball in 2013,[3] replacing Tom Hammond.

    Hicks continued to call NBC's Notre Dame package through the 2016 season.

    At the start of the 2017 season, Hicks was replaced by Mike Tirico.[4]

    After a seven-season hiatus, NBC announced Hicks will return to the Notre Dame package for the 2024 season.[5]
