Hans van Manen is a choreographer and dancer who was born in 1932 in the Netherlands.

He began his ballet training in Amsterdam at the studio of Sonja Gaskell, who accepted him into her Concert Ballet group in 1951. He then danced with the Dutch National Opera Ballet and Roland Petit's Ballet de Paris. He made his choreographic debut in 1957.

Director and Choreographer

From 1961 to 1970, van Manen served as the co-director of the Dutch National Ballet, and from 1973 to 1987, he was the resident choreographer of the Dutch National Ballet.

In 1988, he returned to the Dutch National Ballet as a permanent choreographer. Throughout his career, van Manen created around 100 ballets, 36 of which became part of the repertoir
